DJ P. Montana has been called a tastemaker and pioneer of the ever growing AfroBashment genre which seems to be dominating UK Sounds. He’s supported a number of artists at the beginning of their careers, names such as Kojo Funds and Yxng Bane spring to mind. P. Montana boasts over ten million streams from his Soundcloud and Mixcloud combined.
The project is full of feel-good summery vibes that’ll immediately make you want to be out in the sunshine enjoying life with a beverage or two in hand. There are a handful of known artists as well as lesser known artists that each bring an individual style to the track they feature on.
Rah Boy, Vol.1 is consistent in its sound and has a number of stand out tracks. What first stood out by its memorable hook was Loving featuring Paigey Cakey. Normally known for her rapping she takes a different approach to this track, channelling Rihanna’s If It’s Lovin’ That You Want which is sure to give you a nostalgic feeling.
The best track on the mixtape and without a doubt the catchiest is Since Then featuring Sona & Baseman. The song is a trip down memory lane reminiscing on how things were before the music and how the pair have come a long way.
Overall this is a solid piece of work that represents huge part of UK street culture and it’s growing influence. P. Montana and all artists featured have done a great job in solidifying Afro-Bashment’s place in UK Music.
