[Stream x Review] P+F Sounds: The + Tape

The London lifestyle brand Places + Faces has teamed up with Red Bull Studios to collaborate on a brand new mixtape. The mixtape aims to represent Places + Faces roots and reflect the different sounds of London today. The tape showcases a lot of underground talent that some may not be familiar with and bu doing this shows the diverse sounds that are increasing in popularity other than Drill and Grime. The collaboration culminated in a pop-up shop in Soho as well as a brand new line of merchandise and finally a number of special performances by collaborators of the newly released project.

HOT [Daniel OG, Lancey Foux, Danny Seth, Pearl De Luna] Prod. KC

Daniel OG manages to give the listener a nice reminder of the classic ‘This is Why I’m Hot’ by sampling the hook that was so popular in our younger days. Lancey Foux and Pearl De Luna’s voices in sync towards the ending of the song intertwine perfectly.

SAFEHOUSE [Pearl De Luna, Kojey Radical] Prod. Darq E Freaker

In a male dominated mixtape Pearl De Luna certainly stamps her presence in this track. Her voice manages to sound soulful and you can hear the emotion in her voice whilst she delicately sings ‘Take me to your safehouse’. Kojey Radical aids the track with his normal flair with words and doesn’t disappoint.

CSM [SLOWTHAI] Prod. Darq E Freaker

Simplistic and catchy lyrics and a production that will have you bouncing with gun fingers up and out and when the flow speeds up you wish that you had the power to wheel up the track!

This one is Crazy, Psycho , Mad!

PRS CHEQUE FLOW [Oscar #Worldpeace, Daniel OG, Ragz Originale]

You can’t help but say that this is very nature and this trio really bring the cool to the tape with this track and every artist knows the feeling for when they have been putting in work and that PRS cheque comes through, so flex with this one!

NO LOVE TING [Slowthai, Scrufizzer, Peigh]

Another favourite from the tape. This track is pure old school garage vibes, it’s refreshing to hear this sound considering its popularity has decreased. However, I hope this signals a resurgence in the genre.

CARE [Fredwave & Jeshi]

The tempo of the mixtape throughout is upbeat however we’re given a change of pace here. The sombre production on this track is perfectly accompanied by Fredwave’s raw vocals and a verse from Jeshi.

COVERED IN FIRE [Lancey Foux, Danny Seth, Kasien, Wonder] Prod. Mrwize

Lancey Foux again proves his ability to make catchy hook after hook as well showing off his boyish humour. A track that must be played at high volume due to the heavy bass and verses from the other features.

CRYBABY [Crave Moore]

I would consider this a gritty interlude. When I think of London’s music scene now it’s worth noting that artists focus on painting a picture and telling you a story. It may be through drugs, violence or partying but its real. Crave Moore does a good job of giving you a visual through this short track.

WAY UP [Kasien, Wonder] Prod. Kelvin Krash

One of the stand-out tracks on the mixtape. The hook is catchy and melodic and it’s pretty clear that influences for this track come from popular sounds in America.

Probably the most recognisable artists on the mixtape. 67 have helped propelled drill to one of the most popular sounds in the U.K. The devilish production by soundboy goes hand in hand with the emotionless yet memorable lyrics from 67.
