Fast rising Essex singer-songwriter Beverley Ely will be treating us with her sophomore EP ‘Second Chance At a First Impression’ very soon, and now she’s unveiled the video for her third single off the EP, titled ‘Me First’.
‘Me First’ was produced by Mikey SOS and written by Ely, her sister Veronica Ely and one of our faves J Warner, who has written for the likes of Tinie Tempah, JLS and Sasha Keable. ‘Me First’ is a soulful and poignant anthem about putting yourself first. It follows the releases of ‘So Dumb’ and ‘Back To The Start’ which received critical acclaim and rave reviews from Clash Music, RWD Magazine, SingersRoom and Link Up TV among other tastemakers.
Collaborating with video director Frost (Ghetts, Wretch 32, Stormzy), Beverley Ely has also delivered a simple yet emotive music video to capture the essence of ‘Me First’. Starring Ely alongside a group of strong women like herself, the ‘Me First’ visuals advocate for Ely’s listeners, especially her female audiences, to strive to be happy and comfortable in their own skin, and start loving themselves.
Speaking about loving yourself, Ely says of ‘Me First’, “I wrote it because I had to start loving myself. I wanted to be loved so bad, that I would just give my love to anyone, hoping to be loved back, and I was making the same mistake over and over again and not learning from it. Writing ‘Me First’ was the first time I really reflected on what I had been doing, and I realised that I had to start putting me first”.
We’re definitely feeling this message and will be pressing play on this song whenever we might need reminding to take care of number 1!
